An old Facebook post by actress Cristine Reyes on Barbie Hsu‘s death on her 36th birthday resurfaced on social media.

On February 5, 2025, Cristine shared a photo of herself with the late Taiwanese actress, who passed away on the same date.

She also marked her own birthday at that time, having been born on February 5, 1989.

“Rest in peace, our childhood favorite. Also, happy 36th b-day sa akin [ngayong] araw ‘to. 2-5-25,” the showbiz personality previously wrote.

Cristine faced backlash at the time, with some accusing her of having “main character syndrome” for posting about herself while commenting on someone’s death.

“Maligayang kaarawan sa akin. ‘Yun na lang… oks na?” she previously wrote.

“Kailangan palaging perfect. Bawal magkamali nowadays… May kalupitan na kapalit sa mga bagay kapag nagkamali, e, ‘di ba?” the actress asked.

“Marahil ako nga talaga ay nagluluksa ngayong kaarawan ko. Good?” Cristine said.

The FFTM page also resurfaced Cristine’s old post, which garnered 21,000 reactions, 1,400 shares and 160 comments.

“Happy birthday, Cristine Reyes, and happy [one] year in heaven, Ms. Barbie,” the page said.

Many Filipinos reacted to the post, remembering Cristine’s content.

“Birthday bash, naalala ko ‘to,” a Facebook user wrote.

“Hala. [One] year na pala ‘to? Ambilis,” another commented.

“Double celebration,” a different Pinoy wrote with emojis of a cake and a candle.

“‘Yan pala [‘yung] meme WHAHAHA,” another commented.

Barbie was a beloved Taiwanese actress, best known for her role as the poor teenage girl Shancai in the drama series “Meteor Garden,” which became hugely popular in the Philippines.

She passed away in 2025 from influenza-induced pneumonia at the age of 48.

“Meteor Garden” became one of the highest-rated shows in the Philippines, sparking a massive “Meteor Garden fever,” with fans imitating F4’s hairstyles and translating the show’s theme songs into Filipino.
