Actor Edu Manzano intrigued social media users after sharing an article about the husband of his former spouse, actress-politician Vilma Santos.
Edu, who has been outspoken about corruption linked to the flood control scandal, reposted a news article discussing why Executive Secretary Ralph Recto could face plunder and technical malversation charges.
Although Edu did not add a caption to his post, the share alone drew attention from Filipinos, particularly because of his past connection to Recto’s wife.
Edu was married to Vilma for two years, and their relationship produced television host Luis Manzano. The two wed secretly in Las Vegas in 1980 while Vilma was filming “Gusto Kita, Mahal Ko Siya.” They separated in 1982.
Vilma later married Recto in 1992, a ceremony widely publicized at that time and dubbed as the “Wedding of the Century.”
Meanwhile, Edu’s post sharing the article about Recto has since gone viral, garnering 1,600 reactions, over 330 comments and 155 shares.
“Husband ni ex-wifey,” an online user wrote.
“How ironic?” another commented.
“Ka-love triangle mo ‘yan idol,” a different Pinoy said.
“Hahaha sige, awayin mo ‘yang husband ng ex mo, boss, haha,” another commented.
Meanwhile, the article discusses the possibility of Recto facing plunder and technical malversation charges if the Supreme Court rules that the Bureau of the Treasury illegally diverted P167 billion in trust funds to finance flood control projects.
According to retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, the transfer of P60 billion from the Philippine Health Insurance Corp (PhilHealth) and P107 billion from the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) allowed the flood control program to proceed despite the funds being legally restricted.
PhilHealth and the PDIC remitted the funds under a Department of Finance directive, then headed by Recto as finance secretary.
Carpio said the trust funds of both agencies cannot be used for purposes other than those mandated by law, calling the transfer “unconstitutional.”
