Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) is returning this July with activities scheduled across Metro Manila and other parts of the country, including new partnerships with organizers in Baguio, Palawan and Iloilo.
The annual celebration of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) will be held under the theme “Pinoy Coded,” which organizers said reflects Filipino identity through music while acknowledging the changing landscape of the local music industry.
OPM President Ogie Alcasid said the theme was chosen to connect with younger audiences.
“The theme this year was a product of being exposed to current trends and trying to engage with a younger core audience. But we still wanted to retain that love for our music and our culture. Hence, why we went with the theme Pinoy Coded. It celebrates Filipino music, but at the same time, it also acknowledges the ever-growing and evolving landscape and audience of our local music industry,” he said.
Among the activities is OPM Spotlight, a month-long concert series running from July 1 to 31 at venues in Metro Manila, Palawan and Iloilo. The regional events will be mounted in partnership with Nine Degrees North in Baguio, the Palawan Songwriters’ Community, and Passion8 Events & Services in Iloilo.
The program will feature OPM member-artists performing original songs and Filipino classics.
The celebration will also include the LMP2026: Rockwell Series, an acoustic showcase from July 25 to 31 at Power Plant Mall in Makati City, and the LMP2026: OPM-ic Open Mic Night on July 29 at Backdoor, Maginhawa, in Quezon City, where aspiring musicians and non-OPM members can perform original songs and OPM covers. Organizers said proceeds from the open mic event will support future programs of the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit.
A Music Talk Series is also scheduled on July 25 at Trinoma Cinema 6. The half-day forum will cover topics including music research, production, distribution, royalties, creator support, and industry trends for songwriters, producers, arrangers, students and other music professionals.
Expansion
OPM Executive Director Gab Cabangon said expanding the celebration outside Metro Manila has been one of the organization’s goals.
“For this year’s celebration, we’re excited to collaborate with productions outside of Metro Manila. It has always been our goal to expand the LMP celebration to different parts of the country so that we get to celebrate and highlight the diversity and excellence of Filipino music and Filipino artists,” Cabangon said.
Established through Proclamation No. 933 signed by the late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III in 2014, LMP is the country’s annual celebration of OPM.
The 2026 edition is presented by the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit and FILSCAP, with Power Plant Mall as a major partner. The celebration is also supported by MBC Media Group, Soundesign Manila, the Department of Trade and Industry’s Malikhaing Pinoy program, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), PRM and PhilPop.
