The Department of Tourism (DOT) joined Filipinos around the world in celebrating Alex Eala’s historic Wimbledon 2026 campaign, calling her run “one of the proudest moments in Philippine sports.”
In a statement, the DOT said Eala’s journey ended after a fourth-round match against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, but noted that the 21-year-old had already made history as the first Filipino to reach the Round of 16 at Wimbledon and in any Grand Slam singles tournament.

It added that Eala’s journey serves as an inspiration to young Filipinos.
“At just 21 years old, she reminds every young Filipino that no dream is too big, embodying the Filipino spirit of perseverance, the determination to rise after every challenge and keep reaching for greater heights,” the agency said.
The DOT also described Eala as one of the country’s ambassadors, citing the impact of her Wimbledon campaign.
“She has also become one of the finest ambassadors our country could ask for. Every match she played at Wimbledon shone a global spotlight on the Philippines and our people’s indomitable spirit, introducing millions of viewers worldwide to our nation and giving Filipinos everywhere another reason to proudly wave our flag,” it said.
The agency ended its statement by thanking Eala for inspiring Filipinos.
“Mabuhay ka, Alex! The DOT thanks you for inspiring our nation and for showing the world what it truly means to be proudly Filipino. We will continue to cheer you on as you carry Pinoy pride in the years ahead,” the DOT said.
