‘Nag-Tagalog na si Wimby’: Wimbledon posts in Filipino to celebrate Alex Eala’s historic win

Wimbledon celebrated Alex Eala’s historic run in a way that resonated with Filipinos by posting about the tennis star in Filipino.

The 21-year-old made history as the first Filipina to reach the fourth round of the prestigious tennis tournament after defeating World No. 3 Iga Swiatek of Poland on Saturday, July 4.

To celebrate her milestone, Wimbledon shared a video of her match on its social media accounts, accompanied by figvres’ song “Yakap.”

The clip captured the moment when Alex celebrated after securing her victory over Iga.

“‘Sino bang hindi mabibighani sa performance na ‘yun ni Alex?’ Wimbledon wrote on social media, accompanied by a starry-eyed emoji.

The Filipino caption quickly caught the attention of Filipino fans, who flooded the comments section with amused reactions.

“Hala, anyare Wimbledon? Bakit Filipino ang caption at ang kanta? Iba ka talaga!” an Instagram user wrote.

“Level up na si kabayan Wimby, OPM pa background music,” another commented.

“May Pinoy admin na siya,” an Instagram user quipped.

“Nag-Tagalog na si Wimbyyy, hahahahha,” another Pinoy wrote.

“Nag-adjust si Wimbledon para kay Alex Eala. Galing, HAHAHAHA,” one Pinoy commented with a laughing emoji.

Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year, following the Australian Open, the French Open and preceding the US Open.

It is the world’s oldest tennis tournament and is widely regarded as the sport’s most prestigious event.
