As online scams become increasingly sophisticated and widespread, THINKaMuna Pilipinas, a media and information literacy advocacy, is expanding its efforts to help Filipinos better protect themselves in the digital space.

Launched by MediaQuest in 2024, THINKaMuna Pilipinas encourages Filipinos to pause, verify and think critically before acting on information they encounter online.

The advocacy is now broadening its focus to include financial literacy and scam awareness through a collaboration with digital financial services provider Maya, as more Filipinos embrace digital financial services.

Under the collaboration, MediaQuest and Maya will develop educational content and community-based programs focused on scam awareness, fraud prevention and responsible digital engagement.

“Media literacy is no longer just about distinguishing real news from fake news; it is our critical shield for everyday survival,” Ricky Vargas, President and CEO of MediaQuest, said.

“Partnering with Maya allows us to extend the THINKaMuna philosophy directly to millions of Filipinos who need to be protected from financial scams. Before you click, share, or transact online, we want every Filipino to pause, verify, and protect themselves from these predators,” he added.

With Maya joining the advocacy, THINKaMuna is expanding beyond its original focus on media and information literacy to promote greater awareness of financial scams and safer digital financial habits.

“Digital finance creates greater opportunities for more Filipinos, but trust and safety must grow alongside adoption,” Orlando Vea, CEO and Founder of Maya and Co-Founder of Maya Bank, said.

“Financial education today goes hand in hand with media and information literacy,” he added.

THINKaMuna Pilipinas is a collaboration among MVP Group companies, including MediaQuest, TV5, Cignal, The Philippine Star, BusinessWorld, PLDT Smart and Maya.

Since its launch, the advocacy has gained recognition for advancing media and information literacy in the country, earning an Asia Design Prize 2026 in the Communication category and the Gold Award for Most Innovative Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign at the Marketech APAC Next Awards Philippines 2025.

The campaign has also expanded through partnerships with organizations such as UNESCO, the Public Relations Society of the Philippines and the International Association of Business Communicators.
