Allegations that resigned Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin engaged in abusive behavior emerged over the weekend after a New Zealand-based lawyer released an audio clip discussing the issue.
Lawyer Tudor Clee on Sunday, June 14, posted a recording allegedly taken on Nov. 29, 2019, which he said featured resigned Ateneo Blue Eagles team manager Epok Quimpo admitting that Baldwin, then 61 years old, had “preyed” on students.
“But they know that uh, Tab is the problem, yeah,” a male voice in the clip, presumed to be Quimpo, said.
“Aren’t they scared of exposure? I mean, if something was, or if something were to become public, wouldn’t the school be dragged into this as well?” a female voice said.
“Yes,” Quimpo responded.
“Epok, he was hitting on students, though,” a female voice said.
“Sorry?” Quimpo said.
“He was after the students, though,” the female individual said.
“Same age like her and younger, yeah?” the woman, presumed to be Efi Baldwin, the coach’s estranged wife, said.
“I know, and I warned him. I told him to stop,” Quimpo said.
“I mean, it’s pretty simple. Like, if you work in a school, you should conduct yourself at least in an age-appropriate manner, you know?” another female said.
“It’s uh, it, uh, I think it’s uh, it’s sickness,” Quimpo said.

In the comments section, Clee said that the two female voices belonged to Efi and Giota Kalogirou, his stepdaughter.
He also said Quimpo knew he was being recorded and that he was “asked to mediate.”
Clee added more details in response to online users, saying the university “even let him stay in the dorms” despite Tab’s alleged behavior.
Another online user expressed disgust in the comments section, to which Clee responded, “Yeah, Grandpa Coach Tab really thought he was a hit with the girls.”
The post was also seen by Kalogirou, who wrote, “When my mom tried to speak out, they told us the age of consent in the Philippines is 12 — so it’s not a crime.”
At that time, the age of sexual consent in the country had not yet been raised to 16.
Kalogirou also reposted the clip on her profile and tagged Quimpo’s account on X (formerly Twitter).
“@epokquimps, does this jog your memory? You have four kids, right? Every parent at @ateneodemanilau deserves the truth,” she wrote.

“Tab quitting means nothing. The families of these kids deserve justice. They deserve to know about the culture of exploitation that you willingly subject these students to,” she added.
Sportswriter Homer Sayson on Sunday released a column claiming that Tab was “seriously considering resigning as Ateneo head coach,” citing “multiple sources.” The university confirmed that it has accepted Tab’s resignation on Monday, June 15.
Apart from the alleged audio recording, Clee also released a video on Saturday, June 13, in which Efi claimed she had repeatedly warned Ateneo to keep Tab away from the students.
“At the time I repeatedly told the [Ateneo de Manila] University that children are not safe around him and it was their duty to remove him. I urged them to move him away from the campus, and they proceeded to launch a campaign of intimidation and silencing,” she said.
Efi said she has been married to Tab since 2011 but left in 2020 for her and their children’s safety.
“I urge the Filipinos and the police there to keep asking why he was still allowed around children in spite of these warnings,” she said.
Kalogirou also shared that her mother “begged” the university to assign Tab to “a different team.”
“A team with adults, away from the university, away from minors and they not only ignored her, but made her life living hell for months. Keep asking questions,” she wrote on social media.
The allegations against Tab surfaced after the university released a video wherein the American-Kiwi coach apologized for the drowning incident that claimed the lives of 18-year-old Rene Baterbonia and 21-year-old Nigerian Divine Adili.
In the video, Tab said he “failed” as a leader, coach and “friend” to the student-athletes.
“I am so deeply sorry. And I’m so deeply sorry to not just the families, but everybody that feels let down, somehow betrayed. And I pray that we all find some pathway forward to come back to hope for the future, love for one another and forgiveness for those of us who failed and tried so desperately hard to reach a better outcome,” Tab said.
The coach said the players were sent on a “routine training run” along the shores of the Hermanos Leisure Farm on June 8, only to realize too late that they had already been carried into dangerous waters.
Police said Baterbonia and Adili died due to drowning after their bodies were swept away by strong currents.
The activity, described by Ateneo as a “team building,” was originally scheduled to run for a week but was called off after the incident.
Reports said the annual activity has been held since 2017, when Tab took over as head coach of the university’s men’s basketball team.
