A French luxury fragrance brand’s product is gaining attention among Filipinos for its resemblance to the local “katol” or a mosquito coil.
Diptyque‘s scented spirals have becoming a talking point among Filipinos, many of whom say they look like “katol,” an incense coil commonly sold in local markets to ward off mosquitoes.
“Diptyque selling katol,” an X (formerly Twitter) user posted on Monday, June 8.

“Taray ng Diptyque, nagbe-benta ng kateaulle (P4,191.86),” a Filipino also wrote on Facebook, garnering 11,000 laug reactions.
“First in my bloodline to see katol gentrified,” an online user quipped.
“45 Euros??? Limang piso lang ‘to samin, dalawa na,” another joked, adding laughing emojis.
“They’re selling tanglad for big bucks and we got lavender for cheaper price,” a different X user commented, referring to Baygon‘s lavender-scented mosquito coil.
“Not katol, it’s katoulle,” another Pinoy wrote with a sparkling emoji.
On its website, Diptyque sells the incense as a scented spiral called “Citronnelle (lemongrass) Incense.”
The item is priced at 45 Euros, or roughly around P3,197.
The French brand describes the product as:
“Light wisps of lemongrass escape into the air. From dusk forward, the spiral releases relaxing notes recalling the peaceful air of a water garden.”
“Its fresh, herbaceous scent creates an outdoor oasis. Placed on its small oval stand or paired with the enameled ceramic incense holder, their fragrant spirals create a serene cocoon. Each set contains six scented coils (three pairs of 12 grams) and one stand.”
The product is a limited-edition item from its “summer” collection.
It features a set of six scented spirals and a gold oval incense holder.
Diptyque is a luxury fragrance and lifestyle brand that offers perfumes, colognes, scented candles, skincare, soaps and oil diffusers, among others.
