A story about an elderly Filipina overseas who gave pandesal, a Filipino bread roll, to a non-Filipino touched the hearts of online users.
A user on X (formerly Twitter), where people share stories, posted an anecdote about a “tiny Filipino grandma” who serves as his regular mail carrier.
The storyteller said he had been encountering her on his route for two years.
“Yesterday, she knocked instead of just leaving the package. I opened the door and she was holding my box, plus a little ziploc bag,” the X user shared.
“I baked extra pandesal this morning, you always say thank you so I thought you should try them hot,” the Pinay, according to the X user, said.
“I stood there in my socks like an i*iot, saying, ‘Miss Linda, you didn’t have to,’ and she just waved her hand and said, ‘I wanted to, you remind me of my grandson back home,'” the X user continued.
“I ate three before I even closed the door. Best breakfast I’ve had all month,” he added.

“Yep! That’s Filipino for you,” an X user commented with a heart emoji.
“Filipino rep! Our grandmas and elders are just the sweetest. This is part of our culture. I’m so happy you got to share this moment with her — it will mean so much and will give her joy for life. How thoughtful is this world if everyone found grace in this same thing,” another wrote.
“It’s better with spread and hot coffee. It’s Filipino croissant, if I may say,” another commented. A croissant is a buttery and flaky French pastry traditionally served for breakfast and enjoyed with spread and coffee.
“Ahhh. That is so sweet,” a different X user wrote.
“Absolute gem,” another said.
Pandesal is a Filipino bread roll traditionally eaten for breakfast. Literally meaning “salt bread,” it is characterized by its soft crumb, fluffiness, and slightly sweet yet salty flavor.
The bread is usually paired with coffee, butter, or other spreads, depending on one’s preference.
