“Zero were chosen this month.”

An animal welfare organization is raising awareness about the plight of 70 cats in their care who remain unadopted.

CARA Welfare Philippines on Tuesday, March 24, said that not a single one of their shelter cats was adopted or taken home in March.

“This is what being overlooked looks like. Out of 70 cats, 0 were chosen this month,” it said in a Facebook post.

“Seventy lives waking up each day in the same cages. Seventy pairs of eyes watching the door, hoping today might be different. Seventy hearts ready to love, still waiting for someone to love them back. And this month… no one came,” the organization added.

“It’s easy to say ‘maybe next time’ or believe someone else will take them home. But for them, each day passes with nothing changing. They’re still waiting. They are not unwanted. They are just waiting to be found,” CARA said.

The organization invited animal lovers to visit their shelter and meet the cats in person, getting to know them based on their unique personalities.

“Our doors are always open for anyone who wants to meet them. Come by, spend time, and see their personalities for yourself. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, you can start with us,” CARA said.

As of 2025, an estimated 13.11 million stray cats and dogs roam the Philippines.

Meanwhile, CARA also shared a link for those interested in adopting from their shelter.

The organization maintains a gallery of pets available for adoption on its website.

CARA Welfare Philippines is a non-profit organization formed by animal lovers to raise awareness about the need for accessible sterilization, veterinary care, rehabilitation and rehoming services for stray cats and dogs.

The shelter is located at 175 Lopez Rizal Street, corner of Samat St., in Mandaluyong City.
