A priest is seeking food donations for Emergency Room (ER) patients and their guardians at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

The University of the Philippines Manila on Monday, March 16, raised awareness about the situation of ER patients and their guardians at PGH, who are being sustained by donations from the PGH Chapel and The Chaplaincy.

It said that even outpatients and other guardians receive assistance, with approximately 60 large loaves of bread needed daily to feed people in the ER.

UP Manila added that hundreds of sandwiches are prepared every weekday for ER patients, guardians and outpatients, noting that “most of the patients of PGH come from the province with little to no budget to buy their own food during their hospital visits.”

Those interested in donating can bring food items to the PGH Chapel on Taft Avenue and ask for Willy Samson. Donations can include bread, rice, noodles, sardines, coffee and other sustenance items.

The PGH is the largest modern government tertiary hospital in the Philippines, serving over 600,000 patients annually.

It is the country’s only national referral center for tertiary care, providing direct, high-quality medical services to thousands of indigent Filipinos nationwide.
