The Archdiocese of Manila has ordered parishes, schools and other church-run institutions to conduct fire safety inspections as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness.

In a circular, the archdiocese called on communities across the archdiocese to remain vigilant against possible fire incidents.

“I call upon all our parishes, schools, curia offices, houses and other institutions within the Archdiocese of Manila to renew our commitment to safety and vigilance,” said Fr. Reginald Malicdem, the vicar general.

He asked parish and school administrators to conduct fire safety inspections, review emergency protocols and coordinate with local authorities when necessary.

The directive also included a detailed checklist to guide institutions in evaluating their safety measures. Among the items highlighted were the proper management of candles, electrical systems and public gatherings inside church facilities.

“Let us ensure that candles, electrical systems and public gatherings are managed prudently and responsibly,” Malicdem said.

The archdiocese said such precautions are important as churches, schools and church offices serve thousands of faithful, students and workers every day.

Malicdem said fire prevention should be seen not only as compliance with regulations but also as a responsibility toward the people served by church institutions.

“Fire prevention is not merely about regulatory compliance. It is an act of stewardship and love for the people God has placed in our care,” he said.

March is observed nationwide in the Philippines as Fire Prevention Month, a campaign that promotes awareness and preparedness against fire hazards.
