Microblogging and social media site Tumblr assured Filipino users that it is working to restore access to the platform amid ongoing issues.
The notice comes after some users in the Philippines reported being unable to access the website, with online users being greeted with a government notice labeling it as an “unlicensed gambling site.”
“A message to our users in the Philippines,” Tumblr said in its social media account on Thursday, March 12.
“We’re heartbroken that users in the Philippines are currently unable to access Tumblr. We are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it,” it said.
“Tumblr is a space for people of every nationality, background, identity, and point of view. We hope to share a positive update
soon,” the platform added.

Since March 10, Filipino users have reported being unable to access Tumblr, primarily on desktop.
Some users encountered a notice labeling the platform as an “unlicensed gambling site,” stating that it is not licensed by Philippine authorities.
“Many users have reported scams, fake games, and lost money that could not be recovered. Unlicensed gambling sites offer no government protection. Any money you lose cannot be returned, and your personal data may be at risk,” it said.
Others, meanwhile, received a notice warning that their personal information could be at risk when accessing the website.
“Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.tumblr.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards,” the notice reads.
The restriction angered some Filipino Tumblr users who visit the website for their communities, hobbies and interests.
Some attributed the move on an initiative done by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), which recently partnered with other government agencies and private-sector groups to crack down on illegal online gambling sites.
As of Wednesday, March 11, the CICC said it is “currently investigating the series of reports raised by concerned citizens online regarding the alleged blocking of microblogging and social networking platform Tumblr in the Philippines.”
“The CICC assures that this matter is being reviewed with priority, and we will provide further updates once the investigation is completed,” it said in a statement.
Tumblr is a platform that allows users to create, share and curate multimedia content like texts, photos, GIFs and videos on customizable personal blogs.
A report noted that as of Thursday morning, some users were able to access the platform on both desktop and mobile browsers.
Tumblr, however, remains inaccessible on Interaksyon‘s end, where it is still restricted to desktop.
