A tricycle in Taytay, Rizal, was spotted performing a dangerous maneuver, driving sideways with its third wheel off the ground.

Automotive publication VISOR on February 13 posted a video sent by an individual who had been watching the tricycle perform the stunt for some time on Manila East Road, heading toward Tikling.

The publication confirmed whether the video was AI-generated, and the sender stated that it was not.

“When the road stunts are so wild that our first reaction when we see a video is to assume it’s AI,” VISOR said in a Facebook post.

Apart from the dangerous maneuver, the tricycle was also ignoring lane markings meant to guide vehicles safely.

The post has garnered 6,700 likes, 1,000 shares and 1,300 comments so far, with Filipinos calling out the driver for the stunt.

“Tagilid ka din sa LTO, boss, haha,” an online user wrote, referring to the Land Transportation Office, which issues driver’s licenses.

“Kapag naka-aksidente, iiyak tapos biglang ‘mahirap lang po kami’ card,” another said.

“Palakpakan… LTO is waiving,” a different Pinoy commented.

“Good luck talaga sa road safety,” another wrote with an eyeroll emoji.

The Land Transportation and Traffic Code prohibits reckless driving, which is defined as operating a motor vehicle “recklessly or without reasonable caution considering the width, traffic, grades, crossing, curvatures, visibility and other conditions of the highway and the conditions of the atmosphere and weather.”

The law also applies to situations in which a driver maneuvers a vehicle “so as to endanger property or the safety or rights of any person, or so as to cause excessive or unreasonable damage to the highway.”

As license holders, drivers are expected to adhere to traffic laws and practice defensive driving at all times to ensure the safety of all road users, including pedestrians.
