An individual was caught on camera jaywalking along the northbound side of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) on Monday, January 5.
Automotive publication VISOR on Monday posted a dashcam video submitted by Mervin Velasco, who said the incident occurred on SLEX earlier that morning.
“Happened at SLEX northbound around 7:30 a.m. May biglang tumawid na parang wala lang,” Velasco was quoted as saying.
In the video, an individual can be seen crossing the expressway at the 0:03 mark, before a red sedan passes by.
“DON’T BLINK,” the publication said in its Facebook post.

The post has garnered 645,000 views, 2,100 likes and reactions and more than 210 comments, with some Filipinos sharing similar experiences.
“Yup, very common around the Mamplasan area. I once brought that up with SLEX authorities, they said people around [that] area cut [fences] open to go to the stores nearby,” a Facebook user claimed.
Mamplasan is a barangay in Biñan, Laguna.
“Wait, saang banda ‘to? Sta. Rosa??? Maraming talaga natawid [diyan] sa part na ‘yan, ilang beses nako naka-encounter niyan [diyan] sa part na ‘yan,” another commented, referring to a city in Laguna.
“Meron kasi squatters area [diyan] sa kabilang side. Shortcut to death nila ang tumawid [diyan] sa SLEX. Imbes na umikot dun sa tulay, mas okay sa kanila makipag-patintero [diyan,” the Facebook user added.
Others condemned the jaywalker for making such a risky move on the expressway.
“Hahahha aga niya sinusubukan guardian angel ng natawid ah, haha,” a Facebook user said.
“Shortcut kasi ‘yun papunta sa tindahan,” another Pinoy wrote.
“Temple Run, Philippine Version,” a different Facebook user commented with a facepalm emoji, referencing an endless runner game.
“Tindi tumawid nun ah… Playing with Life,” another said with laughing emojis.
Jaywalking is not considered a criminal offense in the country. However, under the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Anti-Jaywalking Ordinance, violators may face a minimum fine of P200.
In 2021, the traffic authority said offenders could be fined P500 or required to render community service.
Jaywalking refers to the act of crossing the street at locations other than designated crosswalks or pedestrian lanes.
