A quiet detail from the wedding of Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo’s eldest daughter — a brown moth resting near the couple — stirred an outpouring of emotion online after Robredo shared what it has come to symbolize for her family.
The former vice president on Tuesday, December 30 shared photos from Aika Robredo‘s wedding with Jim Guzman in a church ceremony.
These included photos of the couple and a brown moth spotted on the tablecloth where the pair was seated.
“Since Jesse left us 13 years ago, a brown moth, almost always, suddenly appears during birthdays, anniversaries, important family events, and never leaves until the day is over,” Leni said in a Facebook post.
She was referring to her husband, the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo, who served in the Aquino administration until he died in a plane crash in 2012.
“Last night, at the wedding reception, he was there again, from start to finish,” Leni added.
Her post has earned 71,000 likes and reactions, over 670 shares, and 250 comments from Filipinos, with some being touched by the moment.
“A Father’s love is everlasting,” a Facebook user wrote.

It is widely believed that moths are considered messengers from the spirit world, often associated with loved ones who have passed on.
It is said that they are viewed as protectors or guides from the spiritual realm.
