CEBU City— Archbishop Alberto Uy of Cebu on Sunday called on young Catholics to take an active role in the life of the Church, saying their faith and energy are vital for evangelization.
Speaking at the sidelines of the National Youth Conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service (CHARIS) Philippines at the IEC Convention Center, he reminded participants that “young people are special in the heart of God.”
“This gathering reminds them to stay with God and be active in the Church to nourish and strengthen their faith,” Uy told Radio Veritas.
The archbishop underscored the importance of such gatherings, especially amid the challenges faced by today’s youth, including mental health struggles, depression, and the influence of fake news and online bashing.
“We need gatherings like this for our young people to help them develop stronger faith in God and a stronger belief in themselves,” he added.
The conference, the first national youth event organized by the CHARIS Philippines, brought together 833 participants from 40 dioceses.
Fe Barino, coordinator of the national CHARIS, said charismatic groups across the country will continue to strengthen programs that deepen faith as part of the preparations for the Global 2033 Evangelization initiative.
“We are now mobilizing evangelizers and trusting the Holy Spirit to lead us in this mission,” Barino said.
