Cardinal Jose Advincula of Manila on Friday led the solemn enthronement of the historic image of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Manila at the main altar of the Basilica Minore de Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

The event marked the image’s return to the main altar after more than 100 years. For decades, the revered image had been venerated at a side altar of the basilica.

In his homily, the cardinal urged the faithful to follow the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary in their journey toward Jesus, the source of true hope.

“Mary assures us that hope never disappoints because Jesus is our hope,” Advincula said. “No power can triumph over the power of God. Goodness always prevails, and love always has the final word.”

He emphasized that the meaning of life lies in entrusting everything to the Lord and serving others through acts of kindness and compassion, which make people instruments of hope for those in despair.

Acknowledging the struggle to remain hopeful amid disasters, illness, and personal trials, Advincula pointed to Mary as a model of steadfast faith.

“Mary stood at the foot of the cross before her bleeding and suffering Son. There she encountered God, who sustained her with strength and hope,” he said.

He also reminded the faithful that Mary is both Mother of God and Mother of the Church, calling everyone to imitate her humility, faith, and perseverance.

“Let us listen to her wisdom and follow her example so that our celebration of this Jubilee of Hope may be deep and meaningful,” he added.
