A McDonald’s and Jollibee outlet were destroyed by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit the Philippines on Tuesday.

Footage shows the fast food restaurants in ruins after the powerful tremor rattled the coastal city of Bogo in Cebu province, killing dozens and causing blackouts.

Philippine seismological agency Phivolcs said the earthquake struck at 9:59 pm local time at a depth of 5 kilometers.

Authorities reported at least 69 dead and around 150 injured, adding that the numbers may rise as rescue teams reach collapsed buildings.

The earthquake triggered widespread power outages and flattened buildings, including a government hall and a century-old church.

“At least in the last 400 years, the fault that generated the earthquake there only moved again now. So it took a long time to move, that is why it was strong. This is based on our catalogue,” Phivolcs seismology chief Dr. Winchelle Ian Sevilla said.

“I am already in touch with national agencies and the Office of the President to ask for reinforcements,” Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro said.

The province is a popular tourist destination and a major economic hub in the country’s Visayas region.

On Thursday, October 2, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., joined by Cabinet visited Bogo City, Cebu, to inspect the areas damaged by the quake.
