Two motorcycles parked along a road in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, were swept away by a passing truck earlier this week, drawing fresh debate online over roadside parking practices.

Facebook page “Parkeserye,” which spotlights “improper parking habits,” on September 11, reshared footage that occurred on the late evening of September 9.

The video showed two motorcycles parked on the side of the road on the right side of a well-lit street in Barangay Valdefuente, Cabanatuan City.

There is also a four-wheeled vehicle parked on the left side of the street.

Seconds later, a large truck passes by and then sweeps away the two motorcycles in its direction. It then continues to drive away.

The video has earned 677,000 views, 10,000 likes and reactions, and 2,200 comments from Filipinos.

Parking rules in focus

“[Akala] niyo [‘yung]  truck ang mag-a-adjust sa inyo!” a Facebook user wrote, referring to the motorcycle owners.

“Pwede naman kasi nilang i-park ng nasa gravel e, lalo’t motor lang. Hehe lesson’s learned,” another user commented.

“Clearing operation,” quipped a different Pinoy.

The episode revived discussion on roadside parking, an issue that has long frustrated commuters.

In 2022, a bill was filed in the House of Representatives requiring aspiring motor vehicle owners in Metro Manila and other major cities to secure their own garage or parking space before purchasing a car.

“Private cars are easy to own and cheap to use. While traffic congestion can be the result of a myriad of causes, the same is exacerbated by car owners who routinely use public roads as parking spaces,” former Marinduque representative Lord Allan Velasco said before.

“When roads become parking lots, there will be longer trip times and increased vehicular queuing. It has been acutely observed that this situation is prevalent in the mentioned metropolitan areas,” he added.
