A quote from a University of the Philippines (UP) Manila graduate has resurfaced and continues to draw attention for its offbeat humor.
In August 2022, the UP Manila DOST Scholars’ Union, a student organization of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholars at the university, congratulated its graduates who completed their studies.
The organization dedicated a Facebook post to its graduates, featuring their graduation photos along with their respective yearbook quotes.
One particular quote that stood out came from Patricia Taganas, a cum laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics program.
“PUTA MALAS (but backwards),” her quote reads.
If followed, it reads as “SALAMAT UP.”
The post containing Patricia’s entry has amassed 201,000 laughing reactions, 42,000 shares and over 2,500 comments.
Although it was uploaded three years ago, her entry continues to attract attention from some online users.
“[cross emoji] Applied Physics [checkmark emoji] Applied Humor,” a Facebook user commented on Friday, August 8.
“Cum laude ka talaga. Congrats,” another exclaimed, adding a laughing emoji, referring to Patricia’s witty quote.
“SALAMATUP?” a different Pinoy commented with laughing emojis.
“Congrats po, hahahaahhahahahahaa,” another said.
Yearbook quotes are phrases that students choose to leave a lasting impression on their school community. They can be inspirational, humorous, or sentimental, reflecting the graduate’s personality and experiences.
