A social media user cautioned Filipinos about using an e-commerce feature on a social networking platform after being scammed while purchasing dog food.
A Reddit user shared on Monday, January 5, that they were scammed by someone posing as a dog food seller who failed to deliver the item.
“Na-scam ako sa FB [Facebook] Marketplace while buying dog food,” the Redditor said on the “r/pinoy” community.
“I was searching on Facebook Marketplace para bumili ng dog food kasi ‘yung suki ko (na nahanap ko din sa FB marketplace) is wala na stock,” the Reddit user explained.
“So, anyway, after I sent the GCash, wala na ‘yung account. First time ko ma-scam kaya lesson learned na din for me to be vigilant, lalo na sa FB Marketplace. Gulat lang ako na pati sa dog food may scammers pala, lol,” the Redditor added.
They also included screenshots of their conversation with the scammer, who even shared a photo of the dog food with the buyer.
When the buyer said that the rider was already at the address provided by the seller, the message was tagged as “Couldn’t send.”
According to Facebook, a user may receive such a notice when the person they are messaging has deactivated or deleted their account. It may also appear if the individual has blocked them.
The buyer had already sent payment to the scammer when the message could no longer be delivered.

Meanwhile, some Redditors also warned the uploader to be cautious when using Facebook Marketplace, claiming that there are “lots of scammers” on the platform.
“Girl, 2026 na. ‘Wag ka na bumili thru FB Marketplace kasi marami ng scammer diyan,” a Redditor commented.
“This is why I don’t prefer Marketplace. Andaming scammer and what’s worse is, almost all of them [use] Maya for some reason,” another Reddit user wrote.
“Na-scam na din mama ko diyan while looking for leather shoes na babagay sa damit ng anak ko sa aatenan namin na kasal. Reported the number to Maya pero wala pa ring actions taken up to now,” the Reddit user added.
“Sorry pero puro scammers ang nasa FB Marketplace. ‘Di talaga safe bumili diyan,” another Redditor wrote.
Meanwhile, FB Marketplace is a feature on the platform that allows users to discover and purchase items ranging from new to pre-loved.
Facebook encourages users to report the Marketplace listing or the seller if they “see any signs of suspicious activity.”
