First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos disowned a quote card circulating on social media that falsely attributed remarks about her sister-in-law, Sen. Imee Marcos’ appearance.
On Wednesday, November 19, Liza shared the quote card on her Facebook page, clarifying that the statements were not hers.
“… and speaking of FAKE NEWS… ‘welcome to entertainment, Pinoy style'”
Her caption was accompanied by laughing emojis.
The quote card alleged that Liza made the following comment:
“I won’t argue with you anymore, because after all, you’re my husband’s sister and I respect mommy (Imelda). Pero ‘yang mga statements mo, fake, kasing fake ng mukha mong retokada.”
It also claimed to be the first lady’s “statement” regarding Imee’s accusations about the First Family’s alleged drug use.
The quote card also circulated on other platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), where a user expressed amusement at Liza’s alleged comment about Imee.
“P*ta, totoo bang sinabi ito ni Liza Araneta Marcos kay Manggang Imee??? Kasing fake daw ng retokadang mukha ni Manang ang speech niya kagabi? Ohhhhh, the drama!!! Bwahahahahhaahaha, gravehhhhhhhh,” the X user said.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro also debunked the quote card on ONE PH’s “Sa Totoo Lang” on Wednesday, November 19.
“Malamang, fake. Wala sa aming pinarating na ganyan,” she said in the program.
Imee previously made headlines for accusing her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., of using illegal drugs.
She also claimed that his “drug use” got worse after he married Liza.
The senator likewise alleged that her nephews were involved with drugs.
Imee made the comments on the second day of the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s rally against government corruption.
Castro said that the senator’s words were “baseless” and stated that Bongbong had already tested negative for drug use before he campaigned for the presidency.
She also questioned Imee for not similarly calling out former President Rodrigo Duterte, who previously admitted to using marijuana and fentanyl.
