Philippines eyes Russian oil imports to ensure supply

 The Philippines has already approached Russia for possible oil importation, the country’s energy secretary said on Monday.

  • Secretary Sharon Garin gave no details on possible volumes and duration and said Manila was awaiting Moscow’s response
  • State-run Philippine National Oil Company has contacted Russian oil companies
  • Garin said Philippines‘ existing contracts with China are not affected by a ban on refined fuel exports
  • Philippine companies have long-term oil export contracts with China, she said.
  • In 2025, the Philippines imported 1.8 billion litres of diesel from China, which is 28% of local industry demand
  • Garin said the Philippines has sufficient fuel inventory until April
  • Philippines talking with oil exporters like Thailand, Japan, and Singapore to ensure supply
