Archbishop Alberto Uy appealed to the faithful to help families affected by Typhoon Tino, which killed several people and left many homeless across Cebu province.

He said that beyond prayers, the Church must also respond in “concrete ways” to ease the suffering of those affected by the storm and floods.

“I encourage all parishes, through their Parish Caritas, to organize acts of charity and compassion,” Uy said.

The archbishop said many residents lost their homes and belongings when the typhoon struck, and he appealed to the public to share what they can with those in need.

“Please open your closets and look for clean and presentable clothes, towels, or blankets that you can donate to the victims of the storm.”

Donations may be brought to the Pope John XXIII College Seminary Gym in Mabolo, Cebu City, where Cebu Caritas personnel will receive them from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cebu Caritas, the social action arm of the Archdiocese of Cebu, is also accepting cash donations through its Metrobank account number 308-7308700689.

Donors are encouraged to send their deposit slips to [email protected].

“Let us continue to give hope to our struggling brothers and sisters,” Uy added.

He also asked the faithful to pray for local leaders and those in flood-affected areas, saying they face “difficult challenges” and need God’s wisdom in their decisions and actions.

The death toll from the typhoon has risen to 92 as of Wednesday, with more than 70 recorded in Cebu, the hardest-hit province. Twenty others remain missing, most of them from Central Visayas.
