A handwritten letter could be all it takes to win a free book this summer as a raffle promo encourages readers to return to the practice of writing by hand.

National Book Store’s “Dear National” campaign invites participants to submit handwritten entries at drop boxes in 53 participating branches nationwide until May 31, 2026. Organizers said the promo’s initial run in March received strong participation, prompting its wider rollout.

“Return to the thoughtful practice of writing a letter by hand and submit as many letters as you want… More letters dropped, more chances of winning,” it said.

To join, participants must first register as members of Laking National, the bookstore’s free loyalty program. They are then asked to write a handwritten letter on A4 or letter-size paper answering the prompt: “What book do you want to win?”

Each entry must include the following details: complete name, email address, home address, mobile number, and Laking National account number, along with the complete title, ISBN, and price of the chosen book.

Only one book may be nominated per letter.

After completing the letter, participants must place it in a sealed envelope labeled “Dear National” and drop it in designated boxes at any participating branch.

One winner will be selected per store.

Participating branches include 53 locations nationwide, such as SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, Glorietta 1, Market! Market!, Ayala TriNoma, UP Town Center, Robinsons Manila, Abreeza Mall Davao, SM Seaside Cebu and SM Baguio, among others across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The promo runs until the end of May this year.
