Once pulled out from a film festival lineup, “Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea” has finally reached the big screen.

“FOOD DELIVERY is coming home. They tried to ban it. Now it’s being delivered where it matters most,” Voyage Studios said last month.

The documentary by award-winning filmmaker Baby Ruth Villarama, originally set to premiere at the 2025 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival as its first documentary entry, was removed from the festival’s lineup.

The film depicts fishermen risking their lives to feed their families and Coast Guard and Navy personnel delivering food to soldiers in remote posts amid the maritime conflict in the West Philippine Sea.

“We want the audience to understand that sovereignty is not just a political issue; it’s a deeply personal one for every Filipino,” she said.

Despite its withdrawal, the film saw limited screenings at different venues.

“This is more than a movie. It is a civic act — the real stories of Filipino fisherfolk, coast guard, and military personnel who stand with dignity in the West Philippine Sea,” the docu-film’s page said.

Last month, it officially received clearance from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) for public exhibition in the country.

Villarama and the team behind the documentary announced that “Food Delivery” is now being screened at select Ayala Malls Cinemas and the Gateway Cineplex.

“Waves may change direction, but they always find the shore. Food Delivery Fresh from the West Philippine Sea lands at Gateway & Ayala Cinemas officially today. Come see why it matters,” Villarama wrote.

“Tonight’s special: West Philippine Sea, served cinema-style. Fresh catch on the big screen!” she also said in another post.

Villarama is also best known for her documentary “Sunday Beauty Queen,” which bagged the Best Picture award at the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
