Jennie steps into a new world in ‘Less than a Lover’ music video

Jennie explores the shifting boundaries between friendship, romance and imagination in the newly released music video for her latest single “Less than a Lover.”

Released via ODDATELIER/Columbia Records, the visual follows the global superstar as she takes on different roles and versions of herself while filming a short movie with friends.

As the story unfolds, a fictional love story begins to influence the relationships around it, creating a new dynamic that was not there before.

The music video is based on a story by Jennie and reflects the emotions at the center of “Less than a Lover,” a song about a connection that exists somewhere between being friends and being lovers.

Since its release six hours ago, the MV has so far garnered more than 2.3 million views and 502,000 likes on YouTube.

Written by Jennie, the track captures the excitement and uncertainty of an undefined relationship, one that feels like more than friendship but has not reached romance.

The song marks a softer sonic direction for the artist, combining lo-fi guitar textures and vintage electric keyboards with her vocals and lyricism to express the subtle emotions of an in-between connection.

Jennie first introduced “Less than a Lover” during her headlining set at Governors Ball in June, where she teased the song to a large festival crowd. She later continued her festival run with appearances at Mad Cool, Open’er and Roskilde.

The artist is set to continue her international performances with a headlining appearance at Lollapalooza Chicago before making her first-ever appearance at Summer Sonic Festival in Japan this coming August.
