Sandara Park is looking to show a rock-leaning artist side after sharing that Philippine band music helped shape her sound.
The former 2NE1 member said Tuesday, May 26, that she was “really influenced” by band music while living in the Philippines.
Dara lived in the Southeast Asian country for about 10 years before permanently moving to South Korea in 2007.
She started her entertainment career in the Philippines by joining ABS-CBN’s “Star Circle Quest” in 2004.
Dara also released her first-ever album in Manila, “Sandara,” under Star Music, which included the novelty song “In or Out.”
The South Korean personality recently reminisced about her time in the Philippines, sharing her love for band music.
“The Philippines has such a wide variety of bands, and almost everyone loves band music. So I became very familiar with it naturally, and band music is part of mainstream music scene in the PH, right!” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
When I lived in the Philippines, I think I was really influenced by a lot of band music. The Philippines has such a wide variety of bands, and almost everyone loves band music. So I became very familiar with it naturally, and band music is part of mainstream music scene in the PH…

An online user told her that “band music” suits her voice, to which Dara said she would like to perform a rock song someday.
“I think this is the genre where I can truly express my own color through my voice, [’cause] band and rock music have a very broad spectrum and feature many different vocal styles. I hope I can show Sandarock! Style soon,” she exclaimed.

Dara also recalled singing songs of Aegis and Parokya Ni Edgar.
She likewise shared that MYMP and Kitchie Nadal are among her favorite artists.
The Korean personality also said that one of the things on her “bucket list” is to release a Filipino song.
Despite leaving the Philippines for her home country, Dara has remained fond of the Southeast Asian nation where she first achieved celebrity status under the moniker “Pambansang Krung-Krung.”
She has continued to show appreciation for Filipino culture by occasionally enjoying local beer and dining at and promoting Pinoy restaurants.
In 2023, Dara was among the personalities suggested by some Filipinos as a possible “global tourism ambassador” for the Philippines after the Marcos administration named Filipino-American actress Vanessa Hudgens to the role, a decision that drew mixed reactions online.
