At that time, Alex had just won her first match after defeating Russian veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Wednesday, April 22.
In the latter part of the interview, the Filipina athlete became more conscious of her Spanish-speaking skills.
Alex said she has been in Spain for almost eight years, adding that her Spanish is continuing to improve.
“Onti na lang, i-recite na niya ang Noli me Tangere,” the Threads user who posted the video quipped.
“Alexandra for Reina Hispanoamericana 2027. Charot,” another joke, referring to a beauty pageant that celebrates Hispanic heritage.
“Grabe, galing mag-Spanish. Bravo,” a different Threads user wrote.
“Ok, Spanish na gusto kong aralin,” another Pinoy commented.
“Wowww!! So much talent and grace!! A true role model for our children!! I’m so proud of her!! Gracias!!!” a different Threads user wrote.
Meanwhile, another claimed that this was what Alex said in English, “in a nutshell.”
“Every time I come here, I feel just like at home and I’ve been coming back and forth for eight years and each game, each level, is a war or a battle, and I’m very happy for that,” the Threads user said.
Reports said Alex drew louder cheers from the crowd when she shared that her goal was not to be afraid to speak Spanish.
The Filipina is a graduate of the Rafa Nadal Academy, a tennis training center in Mallorca, Spain founded by tennis legend Rafael Nadal.
Alex spent six years training at the Spain-based academy.
Despite becoming fluent in Spanish, she also made sure to stay connected with her Filipino heritage during that time by regularly exposing herself to the Filipino language, such as listening to OPM and reading books in Filipino.
