Actress Yasmien Kurdi posted a tribute to fellow women on International Women’s Day, while sharing a milestone in her law school journey.
The showbiz personality is currently studying law at Arellano University, where she previously earned her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude (with great honors) in 2019.
Yasmien said on Saturday, March 7, that she had just hurdled her first exam for the semester, adding that there are “four more to go.”
“Nag-enjoy ako sumagot ng questions sa exam namin kanina dahil timing for International Women’s Month ang subject ko,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
“One of my favorite subjects in law school is Gender Sensitivity and Laws on Women and Children’s Rights, and I also submitted my reaction paper on the Supreme Court’s Legal Feminism in Philippine Gender Jurisprudence today,” the actress added.
“Legal feminism in Philippine jurisprudence reflects the lived realities of Filipinas, our struggles through the years, the voices that were once silenced, and our continuing fight for dignity and equality,” Yasmien said.
The actress also highlighted how the Philippines safeguards women’s rights through laws such as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, Magna Carta of Women, Safe Spaces Act and the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, among others.
She added that she hopes National Women’s Month reminds everyone that justice is not only written in laws but is also reflected in the stories, resilience, and courage of women worldwide.
“Women, please do continue to challenge systems. Do not let others dictate who you should be or how you should live. Set your boundaries, know your rights, break the silence, and claim the equality we deserve,” Yasmien said.
“BABAE AKO! Bakit? May problema ba? HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH!” she concluded.
Yasmien took up political science as her pre-law course, after previously exploring studies in foreign service and nursing.
The actress rose to fame as a runner-up in GMA’s first season of the reality talent show “StarStruck” and has since appeared in television shows including “Encantandia,” “Las Hermanas” and “The Missing Husband.”
Meanwhile, the global community celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, honoring women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements while calling for accelerated action toward gender equality.
In the Philippines, March is also observed as National Women’s Month, a time to raise awareness of women’s rights, recognize their contributions across society, and promote efforts to remove barriers to gender equality.
International Women’s Day traces its origins to early 20th-century activism, when women advocated for labor rights and gender equality worldwide.
