Actress-host Anne Curtis addressed the viral “I can buy you, your friends, and this club” line after an article claimed she had said it at a bar in Taguig City.

An account on X (formerly Twitter) shared that the actress clarified in “Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast” that she never actually said the line: “I can buy you, your friends, and this club!”

The statement was reportedly attributed to Anne during a night out at The Fort Strip in Taguig City in 2013, when she was allegedly drunk.

The line has since been widely associated with her and eventually became a meme.

However, Anne recently checked with her friends and confirmed that she never actually said the line.

“Sabi ko [sa friends ko], ‘Sinabi ko ba talaga ‘yon?’ So that I can own up to it kung sinabi ko. Sabi ng friends ko, ‘No, you didn’t say it.’ Sabi ko, ‘Ha? All this time?’ But you know what, it’s so iconic now, I’m just gonna own it,” she said in the podcast.

“Kaya nga ang daming nagco-comment, ‘Ay, she’s in her [I can buy you] era again’… Parang, it’s okay. I’m not affected by it kasi I know the truth naman. Sabi nga ni Erwan sa ‘kin, ‘It’s so iconic now, so just, whatever.’ So I’m not bothered,” Anne added.

An online user came across the actress’ clarification and revisited a Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) article detailing the incident, written by the late magazine publisher JR Isaac.

According to the article, JR was at the club at the time, in the VIP lounge with friends that included actors John Lloyd Cruz, Jake Cuenca, Phoemela Baranda and the club’s co-owner, JM Rodriguez.

Isaac wrote that Anne allegedly exclaimed the line to Phoemela while pointing a finger at her.

On February 10, the online user tagged the actress and wrote, “So are you now claiming that JR Isaac—one of the three people you slapped, including John Lloyd Cruz—was lying, @annecurtissmith?”

“Pretty and tisay privilege is real. If it were another female celebrity who did that, she would be forever labeled palengkera, squammy, and classless,” the X user added, sharing screengrabs of Isaac’s article.

Anne saw the post and commented, “Hiiii, not completely… Some of what he said was true and years ago, I owned up to it, apologized to those involved (and also received an apology back) but most importantly, I learned my lesson from it… I’m just talking about the famous line and what my friends told me.”

“But you know what? It all happened ages ago and all those involved are in good terms, so it doesn’t matter anyway… But anyway, line is so iconic, so I’ll just own it. Kaya ok lang sabihin niyo ng paulit paulit na sinabi ko. Ok na,” she added.

The actress’ response has garnered 4,100 likes and 270 reposts from online users, including an apology from Anne herself.

“Excuse my typos,” she added in a follow-up comment.

Anne previously explained that she had been on “a super popular juice cleanse for three days” when she attended her best friend’s bachelorette party at the club that night.

“Had one too many drinks, which led to some of these unfortunate events. That’s why they say, ‘Drink in moderation.’ I will charge it to experience [and] a lesson learned,” she wrote on social media.
