Actress Angelica Panganiban amused Filipinos after she joked about preparing a speech during the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025 Gabi ng Parangal, held at a hotel in Makati on Saturday, December 27.
Angelica, who starred in “Unmarry,” joined the film’s cast and crew in receiving the Second Best Picture award at the festival, during which she delivered a brief speech. A clip of the moment later circulated online, with a Filipino netizen expressing amusement over her onstage remark.
In her speech, Angelica first thanked MMFF officials and the organizing committee for conferring the Second Best Picture award on the film.
“At hindi ko nasabi… ako, naghanda ako ng speech eh, hindi ko nasabi,”Angelica told the crowd, drawing laughter. She paused to laugh as well before continuing her speech.
“Actually, gusto ko lang pasalamatan ang asawa ko, dahil hinahayaan niya akong patuloy na gawin ang first love ko, which is creating and making films and movies,” the actress said.
“Gusto ko lang pong sabihin sa inyo kung gaano ko po kamahal ang industriyang ito kaya po sana, magtulungan po tayo at panatilhin po nating buhay ang pelikulang Pilipino,” Angelica added.
“Unmarry” marks the actress’ comeback project after a hiatus, during which she focused on her new roles as a wife and mother. The film is directed by Jeffrey Jeturian, who won Best Director at the festival.
“BENTANG BENTA TALAGA SA AKIN SI MOTHER ANGGE!!” an account on X (formerly Twitter) said, sharing a clip of Angelica’s moment, which has earned 677,700 views, 8,300 likes, and almost 850 reposts.
“Prangka talaga lagi si Angelica Panganiban, treewww, kahit saan pa talaga mapunta, treewww,” another wrote.

“Iba talaga ang personality ng isang Angelica Panganiban, direct to the point, sa akin manalo man o hindi si Angge, at this point of her career, wala na siyang kailangang patunayan dahil ‘di na matatawaran ang body of work na nagawa niya; it’s already a cult classic,” another X user commented.
“She’s like Jennifer Lawrence sa mga award shows,” a different Pinoy said, referring to the Hollywood actress known for her humor and unfiltered moments on award ceremonies.
Angelica was also among the contenders for Best Actress at MMFF 2025 for her leading role in the romantic drama “Unmarry,” in which she portrayed Celine, a woman going through the annulment of her marriage.
The Best Actress award was granted to Krystal Go for her heartwarming performance in the romance film “I’mPerfect,” in which she played Jessica, an adult with Down Syndrome in a relationship with another individual with the same condition.
This marks the first time an actress with Down Syndrome has won the Best Actress award at the MMFF.
The MMFF is an annual event that celebrates locally produced films during the holiday season. During its theatrical run, foreign films are generally not shown in theaters, except in 3D and IMAX screenings. The festival also aims to promote and preserve Philippine cinema.
