It has been 12 years, yet the one-liner by “It’s Showtime” host Anne Curtis, “I can buy you, your friends, and this club,” said while drunk at a bar in Taguig City, remains a topic of discussion among Filipinos.

The actress-host reposted a snippet of her interview with PeopleAsia magazine on Monday, September 1, in which she was asked to offer advice to younger artists, particularly on what they should avoid in their careers.

“Lacking authenticity,” Anne said in the interview.

A fan posted the clip and praised the actress-host for her words.

“LOUDER PARA SA MGA BAGETS AT THE BACK,” the fan exclaimed.

Anne saw the post and responded.

“HAHAHA! I honestly think that’s why I’ve lasted this long in the industry. 28 years!!!” she wrote with a face-with-peeking-eye emoji, referring to the showbiz industry.

“I’ve never had a squeaky clean image. I’ve had my fair share of mistakes. Owned up to them publicly and learned from them. Stayed true to my core. Thanks for standing by me, everyone,” Anne added with face-holding-back-tears emojis.

Anne’s post has garnered 16,000 likes, 1,300 reposts, and over 70 replies, with some users referencing her famous one-liner from when she got drunk at a bar in The Fort Strip in November 2013.

“No worries, Ms. Anne! Love you to bits! Even if you want to buy me, my friends and that club. Charot!! Hihi,” a Filipino exclaimed.

“Something in the cosmos shifted when Anne delivered the lines, ‘I can buy you, your friends, and this club,'” another commented.

“Nauuur [no], cos [’cause] you literally birthed ‘I can buy you, your friends, and this club,’ and it became so iconic that I can immediately remember your name when I hear someone quote it,” a different online user shared with a laughing emoji.

“One of her most iconic lines being: ‘I can buy YOU, your FRIENDS, and this CLUB!'” another exclaimed.

The incident

In November 2013, Anne caused a scene at a bar after becoming intoxicated and confronting Phoemela Barranda, who was hanging out with a different group of people.

At that time, Anne was hosting a bachelorette party for a friend.

Reports said that Anne was in a restroom when she exclaimed, “Who’s banging my door?”

She then stepped out with a furious expression, slapped a few people, and called John Lloyd Cruz an “addict.”

A raging Anne also screamed at Phoemela, “You, what are you doing here?”

Anne pointed her finger at Phoemela and then shouted, “I can buy you, your friends, and this club!”

The incident made headlines and went viral on social media.

Anne later addressed the issue, explaining that she had been on a “a super popular juice cleanse for three days” when she attended her best friend’s bachelorette party that night.

“Had one too many drinks which led to some of these unfortunate events. That’s why they say, ‘Drink in moderation.’ I will charge it to experience [and] a lesson learned,” she wrote on the X (formerly Twitter) platform before.

At that time, Philippine Entertainment Portal reported that Phoemela, John Lloyd and other people were in the club’s VIP section on the second floor.

One half of it has been cordoned off for a private party, which turned out to be a bachelorette affair hosted by Anne.

The layout of the floor was such that the toilet was shared by guests on that floor, with the toilet entrance near the VIP bar.

“If you’re going to the toilet, you have no choice but to pass near the cordoned-off area,” JR Isaac, late publisher of Circuit Magazine, previously said.
