MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau warned of possible “serious” flooding and landslides on Friday, October 20, as rainy weather persists due to typhoon “Paolo” (international name: Lan) and the low pressure area off Palawan.

Paolo maintained its strength overnight and was last tracked early Friday morning 870 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of up to 160 kph and forecast to move north at 15 kph.

A day earlier, the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center had warned that Paolo might intensify into a “super typhoon” as it veered away from the country towards Japan.

Meanwhile, the LPA was last located 135 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan.

Both weather systems will bring cloudy skies with rains and thunderstorms, possibly accompanied by strong winds and lightning, to the Visayas, Mindanao, the Bicol and Mimaropa regions, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Metro Manila.

The rest of Luzon will experience localized thunderstorms.

Waters throughout the archipelago will remain moderate to rough, making sea travel risky.
