Terrified staff rushed to safety as a magnitude 6 shook a holiday island in the Philippines today, October 17.
CCTV footage shows employees taking cover under tables as chandeliers began swinging at Yugto Siargao, a restaurant offering modern Filipino cuisine in General Luna, Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte province.
The video has so far garnered 3,000 views.
State seismological agency Phivolcs reported the magnitude 6 quake struck 13 kilometres (8 miles) southeast off General Luna, Surigao del Norte at 7:03 am local time, at a depth of 28 kilometers (17 miles).
No tsunami warnings were raised but damage and aftershocks were expected the agency added.
Authorities have suspended inter-island travel, port relations, and all sea-related activities as a precaution.
The Philippines has been rattled by a series of earthquakes in recent weeks, including a magnitude 6.9 tremor on September 30 that left at least 76 dead in Cebu province.
The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where the majority of Earth’s volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
