‘This is it’: Anticipation for Liza Soberano’s Hollywood debut heightens after film trailer release

Filipinos were stoked following release of the official full trailer of actress Liza Soberano‘s debut Hollywood movie.

The full trailer of the horror-comedy film “Lisa Frankenstein” was released by film distribution company Focus Features on Friday, after months of hints and teasers.

“Lisa Frankenstein” stars Filipino-American actress Liza and other Hollywood talents, Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.

The movie is Liza’s first Hollywood film project. It also serves as the feature-length directorial debut of Zelda Williams, daughter of the late comedian-actor Robin Williams.

The teen rom-com’s screenplay is penned by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, who is known for her signature mischief and genre-melding writing. Her previous works include “Jennifer’s Body” and “Juno.”

“Lisa Frankenstein” is described as “a coming of rage love story” set in the ’80s about a misunderstood teenager, Lisa Swallows, and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse.

“After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way,” its synopsis reads.

Kathryn plays the titular role while Cole plays the Victorian corpse. Liza, on the other hand, plays the role of Taffy, Lisa’s cheerleader stepsister.

In the trailer, Filipinos can see more scenes of the former Star Magic talent wherein she dons a cheerleader uniform, drives a car and eats breakfast in her night robe.

Liza also delivers lines like “Are you hot for anyone?” and “She could probably even do pageants if she had congeniality.”

Viewers of the trailer expressed excitement over Liza’s Hollywood debut film after she initially announced wanting a significant change in her career two years ago.

“Sooo happy for Liza Soberano. This is it, Hopie! Proud of you,” a user from YouTube wrote after seeing the movie’s trailer.

“Can’t wait to watch it in the cinema. More Hollywood movies to come, Liza,” another YouTube user wrote with a crossed fingers emoji.

“Here because of Liza Soberano. Get it, girl!” exclaimed a different user.

“Liza Soberano representing the Philippines,” another YouTube user wrote with a Philippine flag emoji.

The teaser trailer for “Lisa Frankenstein” was released last October.

Filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone was among those who expressed support for Liza following its release.

Prior to that, Liza said that it had “always” been her dream to pursue a career in Hollywood, the world’s biggest film industry.

“My personal goal is to be able to bridge the gap between the Philippines and America and help the younger generation, little girls, who also dream of coming out here and make a career for themselves,” she said in May 2022.

“I wanna make it easier for them when they do that in the future, and if it that means me taking the first leap, then so be it,” the actress added.
