Kpop group NewJeans invited their Filipino fans, collectively called “Filipino Bunnies,” to participate in the #ImSuperShy dance challenge to celebrate their latest summer release, “Super Shy.”
The #ImSuperShy dance challenge was launched in collaboration with YouTube feature, YouTube Shorts, which is similar to short-form videos typically shot with smartphones in portrait orientation.
The members of NewJeans, namely MINJI, HANNI, DANIELLE, HAERIN, and HYEIN, performed unique moves and uploaded them on YouTube Shorts to kick off the dance challenge. The video of this challenge is now available on NewJeans’ YouTube channel.
“We are thrilled to present our new song to our amazing fans on YouTube. ‘Super Shy’ is an incredibly fun track that will captivate listeners. Join us in enjoying this summer with the ‘Super Shy’ YouTube Shorts challenge! We can’t wait to see everyone groove,” NewJeans said in the statement.
Filipinos’ sheer talent
Filipinos were specifically invited to join the dance challenge due to their “sheer talent in dancing and entertainment.”
“As Filipinos are well-known around the world for their sheer talent in dancing and entertainment, you’re encouraged to add your personal touch to make it unique,” the group’s statement read.
Dancing is known to be a major part of Filipino culture, dating back to pre-colonial times.
Biggest 4th-generation single debut
The fourth-generation group’s single debuted last Friday, July 7. It launched as the highest new entry on Spotify’s Top Songs in South Korea at #4, amassing 87,408 streams.
The song was also the biggest single debut by a fourth-generation Kpop group, which formerly belonged to Stray Kids’ “S-Class” which only had 18,013 streams on its debut date on Friday, June 2.
“Super Shy” currently has nearly ten million streams on Spotify, making it the fifth most popular song by NewJeans on Spotify.
Filipino fans of NewJeans can now participate in the #ImSuperShy challenge by recording and sharing their performances on YouTube Shorts.
