A woman is facing a swindling, or estafa, complaint after allegedly failing to pay for a P3,500 hair rebonding service at a salon in Tutuban Center Mall in Tondo, Manila, according to the Philippine National Police-National Capital Region Police Office.

It is a violation under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code.

Police said the woman requested the hair treatment on June 20 but was unable to settle the bill after the service was completed. The salon’s management sought assistance from mall security personnel, who later turned her over to authorities.

The woman was informed of her constitutional rights and underwent a medical examination before being brought to the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings. She remains in police custody as legal proceedings continue.

Following the circulation of related photos online, the incident quickly gained traction on social media, with online users reacting to the woman’s booking photo.

Some Facebook users left humorous remarks.

“Bagong rebond sa mugshot,” a page said.

“Rebond now, kulong later,” one commented.

“Nagpa-rebond para sa mugshot,” a Facebook user said.

“Tiis ganda,” another wrote.

“At least rebonded habang nakakulong,” a Facebook user quipped.

Authorities, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of protecting businesses from financial losses.

“Legitimate businesses deserve protection from acts that cause financial prejudice and undermine confidence in everyday transactions. NCRPO will continue to act on complaints involving alleged fraud and other offenses that adversely affect lawful enterprises and the communities they serve,” NCRPO Regional Director PMGEN Anthony Aberin said.

The case was also cited as aligned with the Five-Focused Agenda of PNP chief PGEN Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., which includes protecting businesses and individuals from financial prejudice.
