The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at 7:37 a.m. on Monday, June 8, with its epicenter located 32 kilometers south, 4 degrees west of Maasim, Sarangani.

General Santos City experienced a “destructive” tremor, while the municipalities of Palimbang and Sen. Ninoy Aquino in Sultan Kudarat felt a “very strong” earthquake.

Meanwhile, Davao City; Kidapawan and Carmen in Cotabato; Bagumbayan, Kalamansig and President Quirino in Sultan Kudarat; and Sibuco and Siocon in Zamboanga del Norte experienced a “strong” intensity.

Areas that experienced a “moderately strong” quake included Mati City in Davao Oriental; Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay; and Caraga, Manay and Tarragona in Davao Oriental.

The earthquake also triggered tsunami warnings and emergency response operations in parts of Mindanao. The warning has been lifted by Phivolcs on Monday afternoon.
