A popular Spanish churros store shared the reasons behind the delay of its long-waited debut in the Philippines.
Chocolatería San Ginés was originally slated to open in February 2026, but weeks have passed, and the “world’s best churros” store has yet to launch in the Asian market.
As early as October 2025, reports surface that Madrid’s San Ginés would bring its famous combination of crispy dough and molten chocolate to food-loving Filipinos.
Days before its planned February opening, San Ginés Philippines provided an explanation for the delays.
“A slower countdown, but a sweeter one,” it said on February 23.
“Our opening is taking a little longer than planned as we put care into the details that truly matter — thoughtful interiors, carefully tested recipes, and a warmth you’ll feel the moment you step inside,” the store added.
“We know you’re waiting for our opening date — we will announce our opening date very soon! Thank you for your excitement and patience. We can’t wait to welcome you properly,” it continued.
San Ginés Philippines cited several factors for the delay, including construction setbacks, the arrival of imported equipment from Spain, and design revisions. The store also acknowledged that “bringing an authentic experience from across the world comes with its challenges.”
“And 132 years of history deserves more than ‘almost ready.’ Manila deserves the best version of us. Thank you for waiting with us. We’re not just opening a store. We’re honoring a legacy. See you very soon!” the churros store added.
In the comments section of a recent post post, San Ginés Philippines said it is “aiming for the end of March” for its opening, while assuring the public that updates will be shared on its social media accounts.
Chocolateria San Ginés is famous for its crisp, sugar-dusted churros paired with velvety, rich hot chocolate.
Apart from its signature churros, the store will serve other Spanish specialties such as paella, tortilla, tapas and its famous chocolate cake.
Notable personalities who have enjoyed San Ginés include former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, as well as celebrities like Julio Iglesias, Naomi Campbell, and Dua Lipa.
The Philippine store will be located at The Podium Mall in Ortigas Center.
