Amici Philippines is mourning the loss of its founder, Fr. Gianluigi Colombo, who passed away on December 21 in Italy.

In a statement released by the organization, Amici shared its deep sorrow, saying, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Fr. Gianluigi Colombo, the founder of Amici di Don Bosco.”

Fr. Colombo, a Salesian priest, founded Amici from a personal vision rooted in faith, friendship, and community.

According to the group, “Amici was born from the vision of Fr. Colombo— a Salesian priest who believed deeply in the power of friendship, faith, and gathering around the table.”

His mission went beyond providing food, emphasizing human connection and dignity.

“He taught us that food is more than nourishment; it is a way to welcome, to accompany, and to build community—especially for the young and the forgotten,” the statement read.

Those who worked closely with Fr. Colombo recall his humility and joyful spirit.

“Fr. Colombo lived the spirit of Don Bosco with humility and joy, reminding us that kindness, presence, and service can quietly change lives.”

As Amici continues its work, members say his legacy remains at the heart of the organization.

“We carry his legacy forward in every meal shared, every guest welcomed as a friend, and every act of generosity done in love.”

The tribute concluded with gratitude and remembrance: “Thank you, Fr. Colombo, for planting the heart and soul of Amici. Your spirit lives on—in friendship.”
