A photographer spotted an elderly vendor in Tarlac City who was handing out free taho to passersby in celebration of his birthday.
Photographer Fritz dela Cruz from The Creative Chronicles shared photos of “Tatay Ruben,” a taho vendor he encountered while walking along F. Tañedo Street during the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk 2025 Tarlac Leg.
Dela Cruz mentioned that Tatay Ruben has made it a tradition to joyfully give out free taho on his birthday for at least three years now.
Taho is a popular Filipino street delicacy made with soft silken tofu, brown sugar syrup and tapioca pearls.
“Kahit mahirap lang ako, ang importante, napapasaya natin ang mga tao, kahit sa simpleng bagay,” the photographer quoted Tatay Ruben as saying.
Dela Cruz shared that his encounter with the “humble taho vendor” was a testament to how “kindness of heart matters more than wealth.”
“Through his simple gesture, he reminded us that true celebration is not about what we receive, but about what we are willing to share. Happy Birthday, Tatay Ruben,” he wrote.
Dela Cruz said that he attended the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk 2025 Tarlac Leg on October 4, an event organized in collaboration with Canon Philippines, Radiant Photo PH, and SM Tarlac’s Photoline, when he captured Tatay Ruben’s photo.
The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk – Tarlac City Leg brings together photographers, hobbyists and visual storytellers to capture the essence of the streets.
Beyond a photowalk, the event is described to be “a celebration of connection, creativity, and finding beauty in the ordinary.”
