Manila residents hung their clothes out to dry on the city’s power lines.

Kyy Meneses was passing by Crisolita Street when she saw a local placing damp, newly-washed shirts on jumbled overhead wires in the Philippine capital.

Footage shows a man holding his clothes in one hand while carefully lifting the shirts one at a time, hooking them on hangers onto the makeshift clothesline on June 20.

This was uploaded by Meneses on TikTok, garnering 22,600 views and 1,255 likes.

“Ginawang sampayan,” she captioned her post, accompanied by the popular Jet2Holiday audio.

Power lines in the Philippines have been identified as a potential fire hazard, particularly due to illegal connections, poorly maintained overhead wires, and extreme weather events.

Fires in Manila’s slum areas are common due to tightly packed wooden houses and faulty electrical wiring. Blazes spread rapidly, often displacing thousands of residents in the city’s crowded neighborhoods.
