Officials in Baguio City issued an advisory reminding tourists about the parking policy along a road that turns into a popular night market in the province.
Harrison Road around Burnham Park in the city closes from traffic to be converted into a bustling night market from 7 p.m. every day.
On July 4, Baguio City’s Public Order and Safety Division advised tourists of this in a Facebook post after a car parked in the area got stuck amid market goers and vendors.
“Our tourists and visitors are always reminded that parking along Harrison Road after seven in the evening is prohibited and that the road turns into our night market,” the post reads.
“The Harrison Night Market is a tourist crowd drawer that it’s one of the must-go places at night in Baguio,” it added.
The division also attached photos of a sedan boxed in by night market stalls.
The division reported that the driver and passengers parked the car early.
They, however, forgot to move it before the road closure.
“The driver and passengers of this car must have had that in mind when they park early but forgot to move their vehicle. And ended up being part of the display on the night market and getting a citation ticket for obstruction in the process,” the provincial authorities said.
Obstruction or illegal parking along this road during the duration of the Baguio City Night Market metes a fine of P500. If violators fail to pay the fine, their case will be endorsed to the Land Transportation Office.
Cars getting stuck amid the crowds at the place happen often.
Provincial authorities also keep reminding visitors about the operating hours of the popular thrift hub to prevent their vehicles from getting stuck, thus facing illegal parking fines.
The Harrison Night Market, meanwhile, is among the favorite spots of both locals and tourists in Baguio City.
Vintage clothing, shoes and toys are offered here at marked-down prices. Hawkers of food and beverages also drew in hungry shoppers and passers-by at the late-night bazaar.
