The organ procurement arm of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the family of a toddler whose organs and tissues were donated following his passing.
The Human Organ Preservation Effort (HOPE) Team of the NKTI said that they retrieved the viable organs of three-year-old Ezra Jacob Rosario who accidentally drowned while celebrating his birthday with his twin at a resort on November 6.
His mother, Jennae Carpio, made sure that he “will live on through others.”
“Ezra’s kidneys are currently being harvested so that he can allow another person to live longer, and his corneas will allow seven other people to see the beauty of the world. This is the legacy we can give our child, so he lives on in the lives of others through sacrifice and the gift of generosity,” she wrote on November 12.
Ezra is the youngest organ donor in the country and the first pediatric organ donor of St. Luke’s Medical Center.
“What an honor to have a hero for a son,” Jennae said.
HOPE-NKTI acknowledged his donation and said that his life was “well-lived.”
“Both kidneys have been transplanted in a 24-year-old recipient, and the corneas have been banked at the Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines (EBFP),” it said on November 15.
“We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of our young hero and our heartfelt appreciation for their brave decision. Thank you for your generosity to help others despite the painful loss. May God bless your kind hearts all throughout this lifetime,” HOPE-NKTI added with emojis of a heart and folded hands.
It also informed the public that being an organ donor is a noble decision that can save lives.
“Please help us spread awareness about the nobility of deceased organ donation. Your words could save lives. Save someone someday by telling your family you want to be an organ donor. Share your decision and encourage others to do the same,” the team said.
