A security guard received some praises online after he gave a salute to former Vice President Leni Robredo at the Ateneo de Manila University last Saturday, August 27.

The university conferred an honorary doctorate in economics to Robredo during the commencement exercises of Class 2022 on that day.

To celebrate such an achievement, Robredo shared photos and a video of notable moments during the event on social media.

One of the photos showed a security guard giving a salute to Robredo as she entered the venue in her graduation gown.

A salute is normally given as a form of respect to government officials and other higher persons of authority.

While she did previously hold the second-highest positions in the land, Robredo is no longer a government official at the time she received her honorary degree.

This image caught the attention of her supporters online. As of writing, it has 2,000 reactions, 27 comments and 52 shares.

The comments section under the photo was filled with praises for the security guard.

“Absolutely awesome. Atty. Leni has gained the respect and trust of those who love our country. Lord, thank you for sending us a servant-leader who inspires us in our search for good governance,” one of the comments reads.

“Salute to you kuya guard,” another Facebook user said with a heart emoji.

The photo also circulated on Twitter.

Robredo’s supporters on the micro-blogging platform likewise expressed their gratitude for the security guard in the photo.

Robredo also received congratulatory remarks for receiving the prestigious honorary doctorate degree from the university.

She also shared a heartfelt message to the graduates during her commencement speech.

A video of Robredo’s commencement speech was uploaded on her Facebook page.

“Ang paglilingkod ay hindi lang tulong o biyaya na iniaabot mula sa posisyon ng kapangyarihan; panawagan ito para tingnan ang kapwa bilang kapantay. ‘Yung paniniwalang ang pagbaba, ‘down from the hill,’ ay bahagi lamang ng proseso tungo sa pinakamahalagang layunin: Ang pagpapatag ng burol para wala nang kailangang umakyat o bumaba,” the former vice president said.

The veteran lawyer has been invited to several major graduation rites and other major occasions after the elections.

One of them is being a “ninang” or principal sponsor to the wedding of gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and her now-husband Julius Naranjo on July 26, 2022.
