Carts offering free ice cream for rallyists and authorities were spotted on Batasan Road in Quezon City on Monday morning.

This is an initiative of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in anticipation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr‘s first State of the Nation Address to be delivered at the Batasang Pambansa Complex on July 25.

QCPD reportedly said that the carts were set up to cool the heads of rallyists and enforcers for the occasion.

As of 11 a.m., organization ScienceKonek said that the heat index in the state weather bureau’s station at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay had reached “danger” level of 44 degrees Celsius.

The ice cream carts are located in front of the Pres. Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School in Batasan Road.

SONA protests have been staged for decades as this serves as the venue for Filipinos to air their grievances and demands from the government.

Marcos will deliver his maiden national address in the afternoon and is expected to enumerate his priority bills to help his administration carry out its programs.

He is also expected to present details of the government’s medium-term fiscal framework concerning the country’s economy, among others.
