An old fast food chain earned buzz on social media after some users brought up fond memories they had of the place.
The name “Tropical Hut,” one of the oldest fast food chains in the Philippines, reached the trending topics on Twitter Philippines on Monday afternoon.
As of writing, it has 2,889 tweets under its belt.
The talk started when market surveillance analyst John Paul Tanyag with Twitter handle @dumidyeypee shared his dine-in experience in Tropical Hut’s branch in Escolta, Manila on June 12. He also shared photos of the place’s interiors and his meal on that day.
“Tropical Hut in Escolta, ako lang ang customer nila,” Tanyag said.

His tweet soon sparked nostalgia among Facebook and Twitter users. It reminded them of their good times while dining in Tropical Hut’s branches.
Previous patrons reminisced how much they missed the homegrown brand’s burgers and clubhouse sandwiches. Some Filipinos considered Tropical Hut as the “OG” or original burger joint.
“Tropical Hut trending on Twitter. This is probably the time to remind everyone that the Sili Burger is great,” film critic Phil Dy said.
Antonio Tinio of ACT Teachers Party-list also shared a photo of his favorite burger from the restaurant on Twitter.

Others shared fond memories they had with a nearby Tropical Hut joint.
“I always end up misty-eyed eating there when I wind up in Escolta, growing up in Marikina there was a Tropical Hut in front of the church and we ate as a family there. Good times. The tastes haven’t changed since then,” one Twitter user said.
“As a Tropical Hut kid (both hamburger and supermarket, where Mama works), I appreciate this Tropical Hut resurgence. Masarap ang burgers nila pramis. Plus, may isang item on the menu that goes 50% less every 7th of the month. Meron din silang Filipino menu,” another Twitter user tweeted.
“Folks of a certain age (and especially LSGH grads from the 1970s-early 90s) will remember that what is now that notorious hole in the ground across POEA used to be a Tropical Hut branch with its own grocery. It also was a jeepney terminal for San Juan palengke-bound jeeps,” another user recalled.
“Trending ang Tropical Hut. Kakain ko lang ng Tropical Cheese Burger nila kagabi. All time fave gusto ko un ketsup nilang de piga at palabok reminds me of Cindy’s,” a Facebook user said.
Some online users, meanwhile, expressed hopes that Tropical Hut will regain its popularity.
“Need ma-revive. I always wondered what happened to Tropical Hut knowing na it was on par (or maybe even better) than the red bee in the early 2000s,” one Twitter user said.
“Can we make a collective effort to revive Tropical Hut? All of my departed loved ones used to take me here all the time. Ang vintage pa ng interiors niya,” another user tweeted.
Not much is known about Tropical Hut’s owners and history.
According to its Facebook page, it has been operating since 1965.
Despite declining in popularity over the years, the brand retained carrying its signature burger meals and other food items on its menu.
