Kindhearted people donated a laptop to an old woman who has been using a demo laptop in a gadget store to contact her family and check social media.
Facebook user Walter So shared a picture of the old woman who is called “nanay” by the employees of a Power Mac Store in Greenbelt in Makati City.
“She can’t afford a gadget to be able to connect with her family and so she frequents the store, so that she can use the demo MacBook and free internet and chat with her family and check Facebook,” be said in a post he shared on Valentine’s Day.
“I salute the store employees for being charitable. I hope the returns they get is tenfold. This is now my favorite store,” So added.
“COVID-19 has brought challenges for everyone. Families have not seen each other for the longest time, it’s good that technology enables us to at least virtually keep in touch, at least for those who can afford. But for those that can’t, there are people like these employees who give a helping hand. Good job!” he further said.
So also lauded the employees for teaching her “well” in using the MacBook.
After So’s post circulated on social media and was picked up by some media outlets, reports said “nanay” will be receiving her own MacBook soon. So was also reported to be in the “process of ordering it.”
His post has so far gained combined 10,000 likes and reactions, 2,700 shares and more than 280 comments.
Other Facebook users also testified about seeing “nanay” in the gadget store. Some claimed she has been hanging out in that store before the coronavirus pandemic.

There were others who thought of donating a portable wi-fi device to “nanay” so that she can have an internet connection along with her donated laptop.
“May nag-provide din po kaya ng portable wi-fi? We can donate!” a Facebook user commented.
“Hello, did someone already sponsored her a MacBook or a gadget? If yes, I can give her a portable wi-fi then. If no, I’d be willing to give one,” another online user wrote.
Gadget stores usually display demo versions of their products so that potential customers can have the chance to personally test them, which is an important factor in deciding if one were to buy an item or not.
Nowadays, almost everything has gone virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the public were urged to minimize physical contact to prevent the risk of getting infected by the virus.
As a result, video calls and online chats have become the norm in connecting with other people.
